Google Launches Real-Time Search

Posted in SEO/SEM, Social Networking by Marcel Moreau on December 8th, 2009

Google has launched real-time search on their search engine result pages. In addition to typical search results, users now running a search will be exposed to real-time results from sources such as Twitter, Facebook, identi.ca, Jaiku, and MySpace. Some users already see this implemented, while most others will notice real-time results in the coming days, including mobile users!

The Inevitable is Available

Most people are saying this was an inevitable milestone. I agree. I just have a few questions and concerns.

  • will people and organizations try to take advantage of this new technology?
  • will Google be able to filter these people out?
  • will microblogging messages that contain profanity be filtered out?
  • can individuals and organizations perform any optimization on their outposts to ensure they appear in the results?

These items will hopefully be addressed in the coming weeks. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if real-time search results provide value to users. Will real-time search be valuable for you?
